Many thanks to those of you who took the time to contact me on my recent posts about the new electoral boundaries.
Following your kind submissions to me that I was mistaken on the matter of the Boundary Committee – I made some phone calls and visited my local library (Internet still down at home!) and wanted to correct my earlier posts here.
It is absolutely the case that the boundaries have changed so that our constituency has been cut down the middle and that those of us living in what we consider to be Knocklyon’s centre (beside the national school, church, community centre, shops) are now assigned to a new boundary encompassing parts of Clondalkin and Ballymount. That is a fact.
I did state that the new boundaries had been initiated by the Government and while the Boundary Commission http://www.boundarycommittee.ie/ is established by a Government Minister; Mr. Phil Hogan, TD, the individuals on the committee are not party or Government affiliated.
According to the boundary committee website “The Committee’s report will be considered by the Minister as the basis for the revision of the local electoral areas under his statutory powers.”
But just to be very clear – I accept that the members of the committee are independent.
I have removed one post and edited the second.
Hope that clarifies and please do continue to contact me on any issues which may arise.
